Our First Week Together
Wow!
What a week we have had. It's been a busy one and the creative juices have been freely flowing. This week was mainly about finding our feet as a company. How we're going to work together and who has what role within the company. It's also been a week of discovering the talents and skills of each individual member of the company and what we can individually bring to the table. So it's safe to say it's been really fun and inspiring, if not a little daunting!
Alongside our company development, we are about to begin the devising process of our very first show together for the 2016 AMATA Showcase Festival held at Falmouth University. So we spent this week discussing what kind of show we want to put on. Did we want it to be a comedy? A musical? Performance art? Cabaret? We were unsure. All we knew for sure was that we wanted to create something that really gets an audience thinking. That is what brought us together in the first place. We want to take tough issues that people might be afraid to talk about and present them in a way everyone can relate too.
But before we could even think about what it was we were actually going to make a show about, we needed to get organised. We needed a rough rehearsal schedule so we could keep ourselves on track from this week to our performance week. Including this week, we have 11 weeks until our technical rehearsal week. Then once that's over, it's performance time! We are currently in week 16 of our academic year, so this is our initial rehearsal schedule:

We wanted to make sure we were also thinking of technical requirements throughout the process, as we didn't want to have to do it all last minute, so we incorporated rough reminders as we went along.
So a lot of discussion and planning! But I guess that's the exciting part about being a part of a theatre company! Next week will probably include more discussion, but hopefully we'll get into a studio and get some performance done! As week 17 clearly states - BEGIN DEVISING PROCESS!!! So that's what we shall do.
