The Birth of TinCan...
It was a rainy February afternoon in Cornwall. Five artists decided they wanted to create something amazing...
The theatre Gods listened and acted. Around a table in an almost empty café, amongst brownies and tea, a strategy was formed. A strategy that would allow these five artists to delve into the deepest depths of their creativity and magically bring it to life. But before this strategy could begin to be put in place, this creative collective needed a name...
Ok... shall I just get to it? Welcome to TinCan Theatre! Although the above may be a touch exaggerated, the basic principles are there. We are a theatre company formed of five artists, all current students at Falmouth University. Those artists are myself (Caitlin Parry), fellow Theatre course members Reigine Davenport and Niamh McHale and Music Theatre extraordinaires, Gary Collins and Taylor Roper. As a company, we wanted to make theatre that is representative of the things that are happening around us. We wanted to make theatre that gets an audience thinking about their role in our society and also to help us as artists to realise this too.
We came up with the name TinCan Theatre when thinking about what we wanted our brand to be. Being based in Cornwall and Cornwall being such a huge influence in our careers, we wanted something that reflected this. Tin mining is a significant component of Cornwall's history and culture and we loved the idea of injecting that into our brand. Ergo, TinCan Theatre was born.
This blog will show our progression as a company and update you on what we're up too. First on the list is our debut show for the AMATA Showcase Festival held at Falmouth University. Exciting times are ahead! So keep posted!
